India’s Most Awaited Art Competition

KALAKUMBH IS A STATE LEVEL ART COMPETITION that provides a powerful platform for students to express their creativity, develop artistic skills and gain recognition at Interschool, State and National level. Participants are invited to take part in themed art challenges that help them think visually, explore imagination and build confidence through art.

The competition is conducted within school premises under the guidance of principals and art teachers, making it convenient and safe for students from Nursery to 12th Standard to participate.

Art Categories

Competitions Under Kalakumbh

Students can participate in multiple competitions according to their interest and age group. Each category is designed to bring out different aspects of creativity and artistic skill.

Colouring Competition

Students receive pre-printed colouring sheets appropriate to their group and are free to use any colours. All colouring images are provided by Kalakumbh.

Groups:

  • Pre-Primary: Nursery, Jr. KG, Sr. KG
  • Primary: Std. 1 to 4
  • Secondary: Std. 5 to 8
  • Secondary to Higher Secondary: Std. 9 to 12

Finger & Thumb Painting

Students use finger and thumb impressions with poster colours, vegetables, threads or textured objects to create creative patterns and designs.

Groups:

  • Pre-Primary: Nursery, Jr. KG, Sr. KG
  • Primary: Std. 1 to 4
  • Secondary: Std. 5 to 8
  • Secondary to Higher Secondary: Std. 9 to 12

Handwriting Competition

Students copy the given words, paragraph or story in their best handwriting in the space provided. Separate content is provided for each age group.

Groups:

  • Nursery to Sr. KG: Word handwriting (A–Z level words)
  • Std. 1 to 4: Paragraph on practice and success
  • Std. 5 to 12: Passage on games, sports & all-round development

Sketching Competition

Students sketch on given topics using pencil, pen and optional shading colours. The choice of drawing medium is completely up to the participants.

Common Topics:

  • Historical Forts of Maharashtra
  • Portraits of Indian Artists
  • Still Life
  • Portraits of Indian Army / Navy / Airforce

Groups:

  • Primary: Std. 1 to 4
  • Primary to Higher Secondary: Std. 5 to 12

Cartoon / Caricature Making

Students create a cartoon or caricature of any character of their choice on the dedicated blank sheet provided for this competition and colour it creatively.

Groups:

  • Primary: Std. 1 to 4
  • Primary to Higher Secondary: Std. 5 to 12

Every participant receives a printed participation certificate with individual certification, and outstanding performers are honoured with exciting National Level prizes.

These awards honour the efforts and initiatives of school management, principals and staff towards promoting art and holistic student development.

Special National Awards for Art Teachers

Art teachers receive special cash awards based on the total number of entries from their school:

  • 3001 – 5000 entries: Rs. 5000
  • 2001 – 2500 entries: Rs. 4000
  • 1701 – 2000 entries: Rs. 3000
  • 1401 – 1700 entries: Rs. 2500
  • 1101 – 1400 entries: Rs. 2000
  • 801 – 1100 entries: Rs. 1500
  • 501 – 800 entries: Rs. 1000
  • 201 – 500 entries: Rs. 750
  • 100 – 200 entries: Art Teacher Award (certificate / honour)

Competition Process

How the Competition is Conducted

  • Art teacher reads the invitation and explains the competition to students.
  • Students choose categories and pay the entry fee to the school.
  • School keeps 15% of the collected fees for photocopies & admin expenses.
  • The remaining 85% is transferred to Kalakumbh via NEFT / QR / online payment.
  • Competitions are held inside the school premises under teacher supervision.
  • After completion, all artworks, entry forms, student list and payment proof are sent in one parcel.
  • Once the parcel is received, Kalakumbh evaluates entries and declares National Level results.

Important Rules & Notes

Key Guidelines for Schools

  • Use the entry form provided and make photocopies for all students.
  • Submit entries only once; ensure all details on the form are accurate.
  • Do not share Kalakumbh contact numbers directly with parents.
  • Include student list, artwork sheets, bank receipt and payment details in one package.
  • Keep a copy of the student list for school records; it will not be returned.
  • Respect and accept the final decision of the judges to maintain fairness.
